Stretching For Stronger Muscles

One of the many benefits to stretching is that it preps your muscles for being strengthened. If you have ever performed an exercise routine such as P90x, then you have probably heard that stretching is important for many reasons, including strengthening your muscles. Having a balanced workout routine, supported with stretching, helps prevent injury.
When you stretch, you are not lengthening your muscles. You are increasing your ability to extend the muscles to their full length. Stretching your muscles before a warm up or after, will help you with your strength training exercises. Muscles that have been stretched are able to generate slightly more power, helping you gain the most out of your workout.
Stretching cold (not warmed up) is not ideal. It does not take much to warm up your muscles to be stretched. Light aerobic activity for 5 to 10 minutes will do the trick for most workouts. Once the blood is pumping more oxygen into your muscles, it’s time to stretch and increase your ability to strengthen your muscles, prevent injury, and increase overall wellness.
